Historic Presidential Home

Hoover-Minthorn House Museum

Built in 1881, the Hoover-Minthorn House stands as one of Newberg’s most historically significant homes. The residence was originally built for Dr. Henry and Laura Minthorn, prominent members of the Quaker community who played an important role in the early development of the town.

The home is best known as the childhood residence of Herbert Hoover, who would later become the 31st President of the United States. After being orphaned at a young age, Hoover came to live with his aunt and uncle in this house, where he spent formative years before leaving Newberg as a young man.

Today, the carefully preserved home operates as the Hoover-Minthorn House Museum, offering visitors a glimpse into late nineteenth-century life and the early history of Newberg. The house remains a powerful reminder of the community’s Quaker heritage and its unexpected connection to a future president.
